Kilmarnock P4-5 Mini Section hosted Irvine on Sunday 27th. A great turnout from the mini section meant we were able to field two teams, unfortunately Irvine were lacking in numbers and so, for the first game, Laurie (p5) and Callum (p4), donned a couple of Irvine tops. The remaining boys were split into two mixed teams, which played one half each. Its important that the boys play as much rugby as possible and by loaning players to opposing teams, everyone gets the chance to play and also helps foster gamesmanship.

The first half was evenly contested finishing 3-2 to Kilmarnock, while the second half proved more one sided, with Kilmarnock winning the match 9-5. Tries were scored by Callum Stewart (2), Ben (2), Baillie (3), Fraser and Logan.

For the second match, a 9 a-side game was played and this time, Logan, Baillie and Steven joined the Irvine players. This game was very entertaining, and ended with Kilmarnock running out winners 8-4. Kilmarnock scorers were Ben (4), Callum Stewart (2) and Fraser (2). It should also be noted that Bailey and Logan both scored for Irvine!

Both teams played with a lot of energy, and there was a lot of great running and impressive tackling from both sides. We have been working a lot on our tackling at training, and the boys are certainly showing a lot of improvement. Also, the support play and offload (passing) in the tackle that was on show on Sunday, from both Kilmarnock and Irvine, was a delight to watch and I hope that both continue this in their games ahead. Finally we have been doing lot of work on the ruck, and 3 scores for Kilmarnock came from this area of play.

A big thank you to Irvine for a well contested game and for playing the game in the right spirit. Also to our boys as they continue to put into play everything they practise on a Wednesday night.
