Kilmarnock U13s travelled to Loch Lomond for a last minute friendly match with 13 players, following the cancellation by Greenock U13s due to lack of numbers.
Following a tough game against Whitecraigs the week before, the coaches were keen to keep the momentum going and jumped at the chance to get some much needed game time for a team with a mix of rugby experience.
Playing 3 x 15 minute matches, this young side were full of passing and running and showed some guile in attack, pouncing on loose balls and always looking to attack at pace either through the heart of the Loch Lomond defence, or through the pace of the speedy wingers out wide.
Kilmarnock were undone in the 1st match, switching off on a couple of occasions, which had a bearing on the overall score, as they ran out winners in both the 2nd and 3rd 15 minute matches. Brayden Dean (x2), Taylor Hamilton (x2), Ben Mckellar and Andrew Bruce scored 6 times for Kilmarnock, with Andrew's full length score, after picking up the ball in a counter ruck inside his own 5 metre line, being the pick of the bunch! Thomas Dunlop converted 5 out of 6 scores.
This was a much improved performance from this young side, who are growing in confidence in each game they play. The fitness of the team was also an important aspect in this match, as the majority of the team attend the additional fitness sessions, and while their opponents flagged as the game went on, Kilmarnock were still full of running right to the end.
Next up is home game this Sunday (16th) against Cartha with a 2pm kick off.
