With Cartha arriving with 9 players, and game already conceded, both teams agreed to play a Development game in what proved to be an entertaining game of rugby!
With 16 players, Kilmarnock lent 3 different players to Cartha over the 3x 15 minute games, playing 12 a-side.
Cartha were an experienced side, with 5 boys in S2, although under 13 as per SRU age band rules, and from the start the extra physicality was on show, with Cartha’s stand out players full of running and strength, bouncing the killie defence off, on their way to scoring the first points.
Its been an issue in every game we’ve played, coming up against mixed S1/2 sides being U13, however credit to our team, who are rising to the task each week.
Having lost Kerr early on with a leg injury, there were no subs for either team, and the boys showed just how well their fitness has improved.
This was a very even contests, with Kilmarnock again full of running, and boys keen to get their hands on the ball and drive at the Cartha defence.
What was pleasing was to see them trying to keep their shape and use the ball, trying to pass along the line and attack out wide.
Leading the charge through the middle though was Kenzie. His drive and determination was there for all to see and the confidence in his own ability is starting to show.
There was also some good performances from some of our newer players, however it was the overall team performance that was good today, with everyone working hard for each other.
Scorers today were Kenzie (x2), Alex and Ben, while Thomas kicked 2 conversions and Lawrie 1.
We did have a couple of head knocks too today, and were removed as a precautionary measure. Thankfully both boys are fine and will be ready to take to the field again following our break this weekend!
Training continues Monday (fitness) and Wednesday ?
