Kilmarnock S1/2's continued their good run of form after defeating local rivals Irvine 59-10.
The home side started off the better team with Irvine coming close to scoring, though some great defending from the forwards prevented a score from happening. Kilmarnock knew they had to up their game and after stringing together a few attacks,saw Robbert Paxton break from just inside the Irvine half and score the try was converted by Jamie Sheddon.
That somewhat sent Kilmarnock on their way and shortly after some great play from the backs saw captain Jamie Sheddon Score in the corner.
Kilmarnock kept battering away at the strong Irvine defence and their patiance paid off when Robbert Paxton went over to score his second of the match. Full-back Billy Jackson then completed the scoring in the first half when some great running saw him score a neat try. Kilmarnock
went in 24-0 at the break.
In the second half both teams came out stronger and the game didnt seem as one sided. Irvines were then denied a score on the break when Blair Wilson tracked back to cancel out the threat. Kilmarnock then had enough of being on the back foot and a crash ball from second-row Kristopher Renucci broke the Irvine line and score which was converted by Josh Cooper.
Irvine then took the game to Kilmarnock and some brilliant passing resulted in a score with Kilmarnock conceding points for the first time in the match. The forwards then pushed up the pitch and after a number of crash balls, number 8 Owen MacIntosh ploughed through the Irvine defence to score. Kristopher Renucci then scored his second try after he found himself out amongst the backs and as cool as you like raced past the Irvine defence to score.
It was Irvines turn to score again with a great break from the inside centre who then gave a lovely pass to the winger who scored in the corner, to make it 42-10 to the visitors. Blair Wilson then broke after he pounced on a loose ball and scored which was converted by Josh cooper.
In the last 10 minuites Kilmarnock produced some great rugby and a perfect dummy from Scott McDowall saw him break the Irvine back line and scored between the posts for his first try of the season. Which was converted by Jamie Sheddon to Finish the match with a 59-10 win.
