Waysiders arrived at Bellsland with 13 men . To ensure even numbers Taylor Scott and Owen Mackintosh played for Waysiders. A big thank you to both players, playing all three fifteen minute sessions. Giving a good account of themselves around the field, showing up well in broken play and certainly pushing for a starting place next match. 1st Fifteen minute session. On a windy day, with a soft field Killie played into the wind. Receiving the kick off secure ball was returned by a rampaging Grant Graham into Waysiders half and from the ensuing ruck Craig Hunter raced away for a 30 metre solo try, goaled by Robbie Paxton. From the kick off Waysiders wind assisted kick landed 5 metres from Killies try line Kaj Edgar was outnumbered and Waysiders scored in the corner. Killie kicked off into the stiff breeze secured possession good driving play by Killie forwards from 3 subsequent rucks good handing and strong running by the backs enabled skipper James Baird to score wide left. the conversion proved out of Jamie Sheddens range. The Killie pack were starting to take the ball to the opposition at every opportunity with Kaj Edgar and Sean McCafferty returning from kick off into Waysiders territory a good drive and clearance at the the ruck by Stephen Lee Dunn provided good quick ball for Robbie Paxton to send Jamie Sheddon in for a good team try goaled by Robbie Paxton. After on field defence re-organisation Killie looked comfortable receiving the kick off Josh Cooper secured the kick set off on a mazy run up the left wing fed inside to Craig Shepherd who used his bulk to bulldoze through two tackles offloading to Kyle Millar whose strong run made space for James Baird to race through to score an excellent team try. Jamie Shepherd goaled.
2nd Fifteen minute session. After being over run by Killie , Waysiders started to take the play to Killie however strong defence by Alistair Clark at close quarters and David Orr at full back repelled their attacks (tackle practice must be working ). Killie worked their way upfield and an excellent right wing run by Blair Wilson into the 22, fed intruding full back Orr however the ball was spilled with the line beckening. Good scrummage pressure from the Killie pack with recent illness victim Coby Malcolm replacing Craig Shepherd for a 15 minute cameo performance. At 3 re-set scrummages Killie put Waysiders under pressure and good ball allowed Adam McIvors pass to Robbie Paxton to open up the defence with a loop pass to Jamie Shedden who crashed over through two despairing tackles. Jamie goaled his try.

Killie kept up the pressure on Waysiders without further score. After several near misses from a scrum five pressure by Adam Mcivor and Robbie Paxton on their opposite numbers saw possession regained and Grant Graham crashed over.Robbie Paxton goaled.

3rd Fifteen minute session. The third session was even for a time with both sides differing styles a contrast. Waysiders bigger heavier boys crashing straight up allowing Killies much improved tackling easy targets. Killie on the other hand with their fast rucking, through the hands rugby constantly stretched Waysiders across the width of the field. Kaj Edgar broke away centre field on a strong run carried on by No 8 Kyle Millar from the ruck Waysiders stole possession and drove through ruck an excellent smother driving tackle by Alistair Clark put Waysiders out for a lineout. First phase possession from the lineout take by Sean McCafferty flashed out Killies backs to allow Josh Cooper to avoid two tacklers to score wide left ( keep the ball on your left Josh ) The conversion attempt by Jamie Sheddon fell short. With minutes left. Kick Off return by the excellent full back David Orr on a weaving left wing run saw him offload to Craig Hunter then through seven pairs of hands before skipper Baird broke through wide on the right wing and unselfishly passed to Paxton who scored under the posts. Robbie goaled his try.
This was a good overall performance by the s1/s2 team showing good handling and rucking skills, much improved tackling and good team play. All boys must attend practice sessions under the new Bellsland floodlights to ensure we continue to build on todays good work.
