Killie progress to final on 15th of Feb

Kilmarnock faced cit rivals in the RBS West Regional Shield Semi-Final for the second time in a week and recorded another win 29 - 15 at Bellsland last Saturday.
The ground conditions were heavy underfoot and overcast as Accies kicked off seeking revenge for their league defeat however Kilmarnock secured the ball with prop Wilky Farquhar leading the charge upfield. The ball was moved quickly by both forwards and backs with hooker Liam Fowler diving over from short range to score Kilmarnocks first try with 2 minutes on the clock fullback Ally McWhirter converted to give Kilmarnock the best possible start 7 - 0.
Both teams shared possesion in the first quarter conceeding penalties outwith kicking range in a well contested match with the home side looking more at ease. Aloose pass by the Accies Scrum Half was picked up by winger Sam Diamond on the half way line and gained yardage then passed inside to centre Graeme hunter who fed fellow centre Kyle Pearson who rounde Accies winger to score a great try, Ally McWhirter converted for the second time to give Kilmarnock a 14 point lead midway through the first half.
From the restart Accies were award three penalties in quick sucession with the third attempt hitting the upright which Kilmarnok knocked on give Accies a good attacking position 5 meters rom the Kilmarnock line. A solid scrum by the Kilmarnock pack stoll the ball against the head and Brown cleared which Accies knocked on and relieved the pressure on the home side.
Kilmarnock were reduced to 14 men when Scrum half Connor Turnbull was yellow carded for gentle stamping, the rsulting Accies didn't find touch and soon after Killie were awrded a penalty which was taken quickly by captain Pearce who passed to the Kilmarnock backline who managed to advance to within 5 meters of the Accies line, two more backline moves and the ball found its way to second row Graeme Dick who crashed over the line for Kilmarnock 3rd try, McWhirter missed the conversion which left Kilmarnock leading by 19 point with five minutes of the first half remaining.
Kilmarnock forced Accies back into their own half from the restart with John Brown winning good lineout ball te ball was moved into the backline and Kilmarnock were awarde a penalty for a high tackle which McWhirter dually converted to extend their lead to 22 points.
Accies won the ball from the restart and moved the ball upfield with Pearce making a thumping tackle followed by another from McHarg taking its toll on the giant second row, the majic sponge did the trick and Turnbull returned to the field. In the dying seconds of the half Accies won a lineout and drove towards the line to score a converted try, Kilmarnock 22 point to 7 up at the break.
Kilmarnock restarted the second half with a grubber kick and the opposition scrum half kicked deep into the Killie half, Wilkie Farquhar picked up and passed to his fullback who cleared to touch. This tactic was repeated by Accies keeping Kilmarnock in their own half and after five minutes converted a forty meter penalty to reduce the margin to 22-10.
Accies mounted a number of attacks with Kilmarnock coping with the pressure and after anotherkick into the 22 Chris Milligan fielded the ball and passed into McWhirter who dummied the kick and took off up field linked again with Milligan who raced up field passed inside to the supporting Pearson who raced in to score under the posts to score the try of the match, McWhirter again converted to stretch the Kilmarnock lead to 29 points to 10.
Kilmarnock mounted a rear guard action as Accies forced teritorial advantage for the rest of the half. Their efforts were awarded in some dubious way with their second row taking a quick tap which he knocked on but to the disbelieve of everyone on and off the pitch the try was awarded reducing Kilmarnocks lead to 29 points to 15. Kilmarnock made a triple substitution with 10 minutes to go, McLeod, Andrew & Craig McWhirter replacing Farquhar, Dick & Diamond. Accies continued to kick into the Kilmarnock territory with no avail, the home side soaked up the pressure and held out until full time.
A good performance again from the youthful Killie squad with Coach Blackburn stating the exit stategy under pressure was well managed and looked forward to next weeks home league fixture against Allan Glen 2.00pm KO
