Winning start to 2025 for U18s

Kilmarnock travelled to Bishopton for their first game of the season in West Region cup,in what turned out to be a gutsy and determined performance .

With only 15 players and no replacements to call upon, Kilmarnock received kick off and were soon under some early pressure. Despite some tremendous defensive play, Bishopton broke through to score a converted try to
Lead 7-0.

This seemed to ignite the young Killie team into action, who showed some attacking flair orchestrated by stand off Max Neill.

Killie soon reduced the deficit, with Max Neill putting a fine cross field kick into space for Frazer Sands to race through and touch down. Max missed the conversion from out wide 7-5.

Frazer was full of running and again found himself on the scoresheet not long after, with Max Neill slotting the conversion 7-12.

Kilmarnock were attacking at will, thanks to a dominant line out display and and good set piece from a solid scrum.

Further chances fell to Kilmarnock and Adam Scott was unlucky not score out on the wide channel, however the half finished 7-12 in favour to Kilmarnock.

Kilmarnock kicked the second half off and continued to show some dominance, however Bishopton found a chink in the defence to burst though the inside shoulder from 30 metres out to score a converted try below the posts to lead 14-12.

Not be be deterred. Kilmarnock continued to to press and put the home side under pressure to score two try’s in quick succession.

The first came via Max Cardoo, who ran a great line at outside centre and used speed and strength to crash through the defensive line and made sure to score below the posts. Max Neill converting 12-19.

Second came from a penalty just outside the 5 meter line. From the tap, the ball at first appeared to miss to good attacking runners before making its way out across the back line for Bailey Speir to finish off superbly with an outstretched arm in the far corner. Max Neill again adding the extras to lead 12 -26.

The final try of the game came from a good bit of individual skill. Captain Frazer Sands was quickest to react when the ball was fumbled by the Bishopton defence under pressure, hacking through the ball and chasing to score his third and Kilmarnock’s final score of the game. Max Neill again slotting the extras to finish 12-33.

A tremendous team effort by all 15 boys against a quick and dangerous Bishopton side.

While there were a few stand out performances across the team, man of match this week goes to Max Neill who pulled the strings and always had Killie on the front foot.

Today’s try scorers Frazer Sands (x3) Max Cardoo and Bailey Speir. Max Neill converting 4/5.

Good luck to Bishopton in their remaining games and thanks for the hospitality shown.
