Kilmarnock U18s kicked off their season with a friendly win over a combined Hamilton/Strathaven side.
With only 15 players available due to illness and holidays (we also had a guest player from Ardrossan), Kilmarnock started swiftly and set the tone of the game with fast front foot rugby.
The rugby on display from both sides was impressive, with both teams having differing styles. The big pack of Hamilton looking to hit it up at every opportunity before getting it out to the impressive back line, while Kilmarnock always looked dangerous with ball in hand with plenty of attacking options throughout the team.
After being 31-19 up at halftime, errors started to creep into the Kilmarnock play, which was capitalised on by the opposition. Some of this could have been put down to tiredness though, with Hamilton utilising their 22 man squad to keep things fresh.
In the end, it was an impressive win for the home side, with Hamilton/Strathaven scoring with the last play of the game for a final score of 55-50.
Todays scorers were Daniel Christie (x3) Luke Lithgow, Jackson Cuthbert, Shaun Hillis, David Hendrie (x2) and Joel, who assisted the side today from Ardrossan. Thomas Dunlop kicking 5/9 conversions.
