Kilmarnock U18s welcomed Galloway U18s to Bellsland on Saturday, in what was a thoroughly entertaining game on a wet and miserable day.
Galloway (a mix of Newton Stewart, Wigtonshire and Stewartry) had already clinched the league, however Kilmarnock, who were already guaranteed second spot, were looking to stop them finishing undefeated.
The game was entertaining from start to finish, with both teams dangerous going forward and solid in defence with plenty of crunching tackles.
Rugby is a game of fine margins, and Galloway used their resources well, with a full compliment of subs, bringing on fresh legs at crucial times. Kilmarnock on the other hand a limited bench which was stretched, with a number of knocks throughout the game - the effects of a physically contested game!
It was however Galloway who edged it in the last 5 minutes, with Kilmarnock unable to respond despite some fine attacking play.
Congratulations to a Galloway on a fine league campaign.
It’s been an impressive season for our U18s so far, and looking forward to watching them further grow and develop in the new year, when they start their cup campaign away to Dumfries on 13th January, and finishes at home to Ayr on 9th March.
Today’s try scorers were Aidan McQuisten (x2) and Logan Hendrie, with Thomas Dunlop slotting one conversion from the sidelines.
There were plenty of options for man of the match, however congratulations go to Logan Hendrie.
