After an extended run of cancelled games, Kilmarnock U14’s welcomed Garnock U14’s to Bellsland.
In an entertaining game, the young Killie side, ran out deserved winners against a strong and physical Garnock side 34-25.
Lack of game time, for both teams, was evident, with some handling errors and poor decision making affecting the flow of the game early on, however credit to both teams for a good and evenly contested match played in the right spirit throughout.
There were lots of positives to take from the match, including a home debut on the wing for Alexander Curran, who will only improve in confidence and strength the more he plays.
Kilmarnock had 26 boys available for the game and each one of them played their part. This is very much a close team, on and off the park, and that teamwork was evident throughout the match.
There were quite a few stand out performances and moments of exceptional play in today’s game. From Brayden Deans text book tackle on his opposite number to Luke Lithgows pick up from the back of a ruck, darting through the gap, and producing two sublime sidesteps to score a fine individual try. However today’s man of the match was a Lennon Murray, who put in a tremendous shift not only as an attacking threat, but also in his defensive play...and was asked to play in 3 different positions which he did without hesitation.
Today’s try scorers were Brayden Dean, Dylan Whitsey, Luke Lithgow, Lennon Murray and Matthew Penrose (x5). Thomas Dunlop slotting 7 out of 9 conversions with one hitting the post.
