Tough loss in windy Lanarkshire.

A really spirited show from the u14's team yesterday against a side that had a man for man size advantage, in pretty awful conditions.

What went wrong ? We entered the Dalziel 5 metre zone at least 5 times I counted and didn't score. This reminds me of an international team I watch. Also, while we had amazing parental support yesterday we really missed the coaching team who provide constant insight and support that help players still learning the make make changes during the game. The score might suggest a runaway win for the home team, but really it wasnt.

Worth mentioning too - Dalziel have played almost every week this season. They have grass pitches available, and if they are unplayable they can pivot onto one of their two 4g artificial pitches. So they have plenty match practice over our boys.

Several individuals throughout the team had good moments. The trys were all team efforts scored by Daniel, Laughlan (x2) and Lennon. Luke Lithgow really enjoyed deputising kicking duties slotting 3 from 3 attempts.

And a mention to the u13 boys that played up, they didn't look out of place at all. We tried where possible to get them game time in their native positions, I hope they enjoyed the experience.

Lastly our hosts Dalziel. They were outstanding. Their coach Barry was very encouraging towards our team acknowledging good play, and were quick assisting with minor injuries we got. The food after the match was great and Dalziel had a tradition of nominating a man of the match from Kilmarnock, while we were asked for a Dalziel man of the match (we choose their scrum half Harley). Dalziel choose Jamie Struthers. Unfortunately Jamie had just left so Laughlan (next in line for award) took his place in an imprompu race to down two cups of water to determine the overall man of the match !!

Looking forward to next weeks road trip to Moffat. The club is in a really nice location, just over an hour away from Kilmarnock. If parents make a trip of it their are some nice Cafe's in the village, and I'd highly recommend buying some Moffat Toffee.
