From the whistle Marr started strong and got Kilmarnock roped into there quick game plan, using there key runners and players to suck the defense in and create overlaps allowing the first couple of scores inside the first 15mins.
Kilmarnock responded well after this by matching them and playing Marr at there own game which took them by surprise allowing Kilmarnock to get on the scoresheet!
Clever play from the KRFC U15 forwards which the coaches have been working on, proved effective and the boys embraced this, causing Marr to suck in there players to stop our attacks.
Few decisions had gone against Kilmarnock allowing Marr to counter and catch us on the back foot and back onto the scoresheet.
Half Time Score Marr 26 - 14 KRFC.
Second half - After giving the boys a half time team talk, they started the game strong, using the big runners to create momentum, pushing Marr onto the back foot, clever offloading between the players and brilliant rucking to win the ball back from the strong Marr pack, allowing us to get back onto the scoresheet.
Marr responded, attacking strong with our boys missing the first time tackles creating overlaps and having numbers to counter got Marr back onto the scoresheet.
Kilmarnock boys knew that it was doable and kept pressing hard against Marr causing them all sorts of problems; this produced failing first tackles and sucking in their defenders to create overlaps.
With Kilmarnock using there quick feet players to gain ground.. which was fantastic to watch from the sidelines! They worked their way through the Marr defense allowing Kilmarnock's strong pack to push on for another score.
The game kept like this, bouncing between both teams.
Final score Marr U15's 43 - KRFC U15's 26.
From the coaches point of view, it was fantastic to watch how much the boys have come on since the last Marr game before Xmas. The effort the boys have put in is incredible and shows on the pitch, yes the scoreline doesn't reflect this but we see progress and that's positive and allows room to improve for the next game.
Keep up the good work boys and big numbers for training.
