Strong 2nd half display

With league business put on hold until the 18th of February The Penguins entertained Hyndland 1st Xv. Hyndland 3 leagues above Killie received the kick off and were immediately put under pressure, Ian Speirs made a break and offloaded to Craig Hunter who outpaced the defence to score wide out on the left Graham McCue knocked over the difficult conversion giving Killie a 7 point lead after only 2 minutes. Hyndland were stunned but came straight back at Killie but their defence was holding firm. On the 20th minute mark Killie struck again, the forwards won good ball the ball was moved into the middle of the park and a well timed pass from Graham McCue to Steph Stewart put him through a gap for the centre to score to the right of the post the conversion drifted wide but Killie extended their to 12 points to 0. Hyndland were not to be outdone and scored a well worked try of their own under the posts after31 minutes and with a successful conversion the lead was narrowed to 12 points to 7. The last 9 minutes of the first half were fairly even leaving Killie with a narrow lead. Killie introduced another two debutants Gary Greenshields into the front row and Adam Linton onto the wing. The second half started much the same as the first with Killie Scoring after only 2 minutes, the forwards secured the ball from the kick off moved the ball into the midfield with some good inter passing by the backline allowed Steph Stewart to outpace the defence to score under the posts increasing Killies lead to 17 points to 7. On the 58th minute mark Killie scored another try this time through debutant Archie Jackson McCue made no mistake with the conversion this time extending Killies lead to 24 points to 7. Killies confidence was now growing and were playing good sensible controlled rugby and it was no surprise that they added another try this time through outside centre McCue who converted his own try putting some daylight between the teams 31 points to 7 with 19 minutes still to play. Hyndland were not going to give up and came back with a try of their own, some slack tackling around the ruck defence allowed their 2nd row to gallop over and score to the left of the posts the conversion was successful 31 point to 14 with 15 minute left on the clock. Back came Killie and Craig Hunter scored his second of the day Sean Mcguire knocking over the conversion extending the Killie lead 38 points to 14 with less than 5 minutes to play. Killie now had their tails up and were attacking at very opportunity, Sean Pony McGuire was in the right place at the right time to take the scoring pass, McCue knocked the conversion over
Extending the the lead to 45 points to 14 with only minutes to play. Killie tried hard to push for the 50 point but it was Hyndland who had the final say scoring under the posts again the conversion was successful to complete the scoring. The referee blew for no side leaving Killie worthy winners by 45 points to 21. A strong 2nd half performance proved to be the difference between the two teams, Killie playing good simple direct rugby. There was some fine performances, good debuts by Archie Jackson, Adam Linton & Gary Greenshields.
However man of the match went to Andy Sloan for his distribution and solid tackling.
