Narrow defeat but 2 bonus points.

The 2nd xv entertained Dumfries 2nds at Bellsland this afternoon and lost by 29 points to 22.
Sean McGuire opened the scoring after 5 minutes with a neat break to score to the right of the posts popped over the conversion and Killie were off to a fine start leading by 7 points after only 6 minutes. Both team exerted alot of energy up front with neither pack really taking much control but it was Dumfries who scored next with some weak tackling in the Killie defencive line allowing Dumfries to score two quick tries with one being converted to take a narrow lead by 12 points to 7. Kilmarnock took the game back to Dumfries a good chip and chase by Sean 'Pony' McGuire was collected and recycled with the supporteing Liam Fowler diving over the try line to level the scores. With 5 minute remaining of the first half Kieran 'Cheesy' Grant won a goood lineout ball the forwards drove it on and William 'Wilky' Farquhar appeared from the middle of the driving maul outstripped the Dumfries cover defence and scored to the right of the posts, unfortunately for Killie Pony left his kicking boots at home with another missed conversion.
The half time whistle blew Kilmarnock having a slender 17 point to 12 lead.
Dumfries turned around with the wind at their backs and used it to good effect in the opening minutes of the second half regularly putting the ball in behind the Killie defence. It was no surprise when Dumfries score after 10 second half minutes converting their try to take a two point lead 17 - 19. Kilmarnock were kicking away good hard earned possesion allowing Dumfries to take up good field possession time after time, the defence was holding firm but for how long? Dumfries were awarded a penaly which they dually converted to increase their lead by 5 points 17-22 and five minutes later added another try and conversion 17-29 with on 10 minutes left. Kilmarnock pushed hard and were camped on the Dumfries line but could not get across it, penalty after penalty was awarded but Dumfries were holding out. With 5 minute left on the clock Kilmarnock finally got the try they deserved the forwards won good ball, tied in the Dumfries defence, shipped the ball wide with Gregor McMillan coming into the line at pace to score wide out on the left the conversion was again missed, 22-29 with only a few minutes left. Kilmarnock pushed hard running everything back at Dumfries an unfortunate knock on ended the game. Kilmarnock could have won this game but just came up short, hard work at training this week and hopfully back to winning ways away to Dunferline next Saturday
